Funeral services for Kenneth “Red” Utter, 82, were held December 11, 2021 at the McIntosh Presbyterian Church. Burial was at the McIntosh
Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. He passed away December 3, 2021.
Red was born to Ernest and Christine(Moser) Utter in McIntosh on October 19, 1939. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church in McIntosh on July 14, 1940.
Red graduated from McIntosh High School on May 21, 1958. He participated in football, basketball, and track. After high school, he worked for several local businesses and farmers/ranchers.
In February 1961, Red got his diploma in Fundamentals of Electronics from Devry Technical Institute. The following year he received an additional certification in Television and Radio Services from Devry. He opened his own business, Ken’s TV Repair, in McIntosh, which he operated for several years. In 1968, Red started driving buses for McIntosh School, a job which he enjoyed for the next four years. In 1972, he became custodian/janitor at McIntosh School and stayed until his retirement in June of 2005. In his spare time Red helped many family members build and remodel their homes and rental properties. After his retirement, Red moved to Mobridge where he enjoyed many years of hunting, fishing, and fish fries with family and friends.
Whether it was hunting and fishing or picking potatoes with his brothers or playing cards in his younger days, Red enjoyed time with his family. He will be remembered for his “friendly” banter/discussions with family and his honest advice.
Red is survived by his sister-in-law, Deloris Utter, 25 nieces and nephews and their families, as well as numerous cousins, extended family members and friends.
Red is preceded in death by his parents; his six brothers and five sisters-in-law: Hugh and Mary, Vernon and Lois, Robert “Bob” and Mary, Lynn “Luke” and Lela, David and Alyce, and Miles; two sisters and two brothers-in-law, Doris, Madeline “Megs” and Hank Disrud and George Mortenson; five nephews: Corky Utter, Allen Utter, Corey Utter, Kevin Utter, and Mervin Hedlin; one niece, Gail O’Donnell; and numerous aunts and uncles.
