Mass of Christian Burial for Lamarr Paul Avery, 70, of Eagle Butte was held Thursday, November 4, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Fr. John Paul Trask officiated. Burial was in St. Theresa’s Catholic Cemetery in White Horse under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Mr. Avery passed away on October 27, 2021 in Eagle Butte.
LaMarr Paul Avery was born September 29, 1951 to Margaret Rousseau and Charles Avery at Old Cheyenne Agency. LaMarr graduated from Moses Lake High School, Moses Lake, WA.
LaMarr and Rosalita Roach raised their children in the Red Scaffold Community. LaMarr was a Master Gardener and an animal lover and many of his jobs were related to animals. He was a longtime ranch hand from 1960-1996, always out fencing, feeding cattle, and other outdoor ranch activities. LaMarr cooked for the Big Foot Ride for 12 years and took care of the Cheyenne River Buffalo Herd. He enjoyed sharing his traditional knowledge with the youth whether that was making bows or working with hides.
He is survived by his sisters, Colleen Momner, UnaLee (Don) Howe, Muretta Hayes, and Becky Avery; his brothers, Art Avery, Allen (Linda) Avery, Leon (Cynthia) Avery, and Laddie Avery; his children Jamie (Cynthia) Roach, Medina (Jason) Matonis, Ann (Raphael) Lopez, and Orlando Avery; six granddaughters; two grandsons; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
