Mickey Lyle “Mick” White Feather, 67, of Dupree passed away August 29, 2026, at his home.
His funeral was held September 11, 2026, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte.
Mickey Lyle “Mick” White Feather was born on July 27, 1959, to Lamont and Virginia (Eagle Chasing) White Feather in Faith but grew up in Cherry Creek. Mick’s Lakota name is “Zuya Tokahe” (First Star In War) which was given to him by his dad. The ceremony was performed by Lalas Frank Waloke and James “Deafy” Eagle Chasing. Mick was a full-blooded Lakota Sioux who was enrolled in the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and is a member of the Mnicoujou Band. Mick was a member of the Bear Claw Clan.
Mick attended school in Cherry Creek up until the third grade. The family then moved to Dupree where he attended Dupree School, graduating in 1977. While attending Dupree School, Mick participated in basketball, track, football and rodeo. After high school, he furthered his education by attending college in Springfield (1977) and later transferred to Northern State University in Aberdeen (1978).
Mick was a heavy equipment operator. He worked at the following places: Federal Building in Aberdeen, CRST Property & Supply, and Cheyenne River Construction. He helped construct the Cheyenne River Community College and many dams and roads. He sold cars and did pest control for Rod Antiz in Rapid City, worked for the Forest Service in the mountains in Albuquerque, NM. He worked a total of 40 years for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe from July 1980 to July 2020.
Mick participated in many sports but grew to love playing and coaching fast pitch. He got to coach his sister Robyn Claymore’s fast pitch team in Aberdeen. Recently, he fell in love with Indian Horse Relays. Every year during the CRST Annual Fair, he would attend the Indian Horse Relays.
Mick enjoyed talking his native language, Lakota. He was always willing to teach the language. Takoja Lamont would ask him words and Mick would tell him.
Mick is survived by his children: Lani Michelle Poitra, Belcourt, ND, Mikki Carlyle Hostert (Matt Hostert), Denver, CO, Jenna White Feather, Eagle Butte, and Charla White Feather (Parker Ducheneaux), Eagle Butte; his grandchildren: Pria Ducheneaux, Mikayla (Micah) Hostert-Ware, Kaydence Hostert, Kali Hostert, Kendi Hostert, Sonja Thompson, Lamont White Feather, Krishtian Makes Him First, Payje Makes Him First, Brielle “Brea” Claymore, Kyan Claymore, Darcey Garreau, Dallas White Feather, Dadrian Garreau, Dacie Garreau, Dacia Garreau, Tyler Garreau, Jr., Macie Lemke, and Addisyn Vrooman; great-grandchild, Matoska Sage Hostert; siblings: Robyn (Grady) Claymore, Jeff White Feather, Gail “Jonni” White Feather, Ev Ann White Feather, Holliday Haynes, and Stephanie Addington; and his nieces and nephews: Tyson (Kelli) Thompson, Willo Pretends Eagle, Sydnee White Feather (Chris Makes Him First), Jay’D Claymore, and Brad Claymore.
Mick was preceded in death by his parents Lamont Sidney and Virginia (Eagle Chasing) White Feather; sister Michelle White Feather; nephew Allen John White; maternal grandparents Narcisse Eagle Chasing and Grace (Lillibridge) Eagle Chasing; paternal grandparents: Sylvan White Feather and Ida (Kane) White Feather; uncle Aaron Swan; and aunts Shawlee “Shirley” Haynes and Luverne Eagle Chasing.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
