February 2, 1944 – October 21, 2022
A Mass of Christian Burial for Myrna Holzer, 78, of Mobridge was held on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mobridge. Interment under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge was held on Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis.
Myrna Kay (Baer) Holzer was born February 2, 1944 in Mobridge to Reinhold (Ike) and Ann (Blondo) Baer. Myrna attended Mobridge Public High School, where she trudged through the snow each winter until her graduation in May of 1962. Upon graduation, she continued her work at the Mobridge Coca-Cola plant. Two years after graduating, Myrna met Daniel (Danny) Holzer at a dance in McLaughlin. They dated off and on until Danny went into the Army in 1965—this didn’t stop them from keeping in touch. Her letters provided him company until he returned in August of 1967 and proposed to Myrna in early December of the same year.
Danny and Myrna married on April 27, 1968 at the Mobridge Catholic Church. They made their home in Mobridge where Danny worked at MDU and Myrna continued to work at the Coca-Cola plant until December of 1968.
On February 4, 1969, Danny and Myrna welcomed their first child, Timothy Wade, and on November 21, 1971, a baby girl, Dawn Marie, completed the family.
Although Danny was the one in the military, Myrna was “the general” when it came to their kids. She provided an organized home, but wasn’t afraid to bend her own rules once in a while.
Danny and Myrna lived in Mobridge until August 1977 when Danny was transferred to MDU in Mandan, ND. They remained there until the fall of 1978 when they moved to Trail City. She later welcomed into the family, Steph (Laundreaux) who married Tim in 1991, and Myrna became a grandmother for the first time on February 21, 1993, when Kaitlin McKenzie Holzer was born to Tim and Steph. Her second grandchild, Caleb Joshua Timmerman, son of Dawn, entered the world on October 19, 1998.
Myrna experienced a fulfilling life of perms, friends, and laughs in Trail City until September 21, 2016 when they moved to Mobridge.
Myrna was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in Sioux Falls in December of 2021. She was treated at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck, ND for the remainder of her life. She passed away peacefully on October 21, 2022 at the Mobridge Regional Hospital.
Myrna was preceded in death by her mom Ann, dad Ike, and brothers Larry and Snooks.
Myrna is survived by husband, Danny of Mobridge; son, Tim Holzer of Mobridge; daughter-in-law, Steph Holzer of Mobridge; daughter, Dawn Holzer of Mobridge; granddaughter Kaitlin Holzer of Mobridge; grandson Caleb Timmerman of Omaha, NE; sister Judy Martin of Mobridge, and sister Rosemary Verbanac of McLaughlin.
