Naden Larry Kempf, 72, of Mitchell died January 18, 2023 at the Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell.
He was born November 14, 1950, to Rudolph and Eva (Wessel) Kempf. He spent his childhood on the family farm north of Timber Lake. He attended the Chapel School and graduated from Timber Lake High School in 1968. After graduation he worked on a combine crew out of Onida until harvest ended in the fall. Upon completion of an automotive mechanic’s course, he worked in that field until he entered the Air Force.
Naden served in the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1987, including tours of duty in Vietnam, Germany, California, and Florida. After his service, Naden settled in Mitchell and worked for the city sanitation department, and as a mechanic at a Standard filling station.
Naden was a quiet, gentle, kind person. He was an avid reader and enjoyed watching quiz shows, where he was always quick with the answer. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by his brothers Norman (Sylvia) of Lincoln, NE, Vern (Lynn) of Chardon, OH and his sister Arlis of Melbourne, Australia.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Eva (Wessel) Kempf. A memorial service and inurnment will be held in the spring at the Black Hills National Cemetery near Sturgis.
