Peggy Knife

July 17, 1951 – April 28, 2022

Peggy Knife, 70, of Red Scaffold, entered the spirit world, Thursday, April 28, 2022 at Cheyenne River Health Center in Eagle Butte. A Funeral Mass was held Monday, May 9, 2022 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte with Fr. John Paul Trask presiding. Burial followed at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery at Red Scaffold.

Peggy Rose was born to Bevin Sr., and Cecelia Cook Circle Eagle at Cheyenne Agency on July 17, 1951. She grew up in the community of Red Scaffold and received her education in Red Scaffold, Eagle Butte, Saint Mary’s, and Syracuse, NY, where she graduated in 1969. She earned college credits from Black Hills, SiTanka, and Northern State, Aberdeen.

Her employment was with the Head Start Program in Red Scaffold and Eagle Butte, and Takini Elementary School.

She married Ted Knife Sr. and to this union one child was born Mary Magdeline and grandson Matthew Knife. She also gained step-children, Ted Jr., Wendell, Randall, Georgette, and the late Dion Knife.

Peggy and Ted were very active servants of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, traveling and singing throughout South Dakota and other states. She was also active in the Red Scaffold Congregational Church. She was always willing to help with any family, church activities, and community events. Red Scaffold was her pride and joy.

Peggy and Ted were the godparents for their niece, Desiree Rose Clown, and parents to Conroy and Rolynn Clown. They were also godparents to Randon L. Clown, Jenny Halfred, and Ronda Charging Cloud. Delight Halfred lived with them for many years. Later, Peggy depended on the twins, Krystal and Krystan, to help her. She was also a godmother to Kaven.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Knife and grandson, Matthew Knife; stepchildren: Ted Jr. (Dolly) Knife, Wendell (Joey) Knife, Randall (Stacy) Knife, and Georgette Knife; hunka sons: Conroy Clown and Dean Dupris; hunka daughter, Kara Condon; siblings: Beverly (Delmar) Clown, Helene (Adrian) Martinez, Willie Circle Eagle, Joy Circle Eagle, Velma (Tator) Kills Back, and Lillian White Wolf; hunka siblings: Moses High Elk and Dixie LeCompte; nephews: Delmar Jr., Huey, Delaine, Fain, Brandon, R.J., Elden, Lamar, Bevin, Fabian, and Marlo; nieces: Dardi, Rolynn, Desiree, Felicia, Lynette, Emily (Terry), Kimberly, Crissy, Katie, Kenzie, Kel’lyn, Krystal, and Krystan; grandchildren: Justin, Jaylen, Jeffery, Andrea, Avanda, Gabriel, Michael, Clayton, Charlie (Heather), Coy (Justice), Calynn (Tyler), Marylinn, Bradylin, Shayanne, Jordan, Phil, Brittney, Bryanna, Lauryn, Braxtyn, Peyton, Tyree, Kayliah, Leighton, Saajen, Damien, Wayanka, Masani, Robert, Joseph, Noah, Danny, Greta, Claire, Kaven, Hayzen, Nancy, Chloe, Kendall, Zoey, Lizzy, Shydawn, Terry Jr., Kyle, Brextyn, Kade, Elora, Colin, Jacoby, Ricki, Dexter, Colin, Cole, Tyler, Thunder, Shelby Rose, Jazmyne, Anjali, Noah, Adam, Peyton Chanley, Asa Alu, James Knife, Memphis, and Elijah Rae Brewer; and great-grandchildren: Jailynn, Dastan, Dashall, Evelyn, Kyzen, Natalie, Jahaziel, Israelle, Jachai, Anobie, Anahla, Anika, Ayden, Ashton, Dawson, Griffen, Hayley, Charlotte, Scarlette, Carolyn, Ascher, and Talon.

Preceding her in death are her husband, Ted Knife Sr.; parents, Bevin Sr., and Cecelia; brothers, Robert “Bobby Joe” and Bevin Jr.; sister Marilyn; nephews: Randon, Roland Jr., and Boyd; grandchildren Jeremiah Leksi Pressler Circle Eagle, Asa and Brady Paul Knife; stepson Dion Knife; grandparents William and Rose (Ward) Circle Eagle and Wallace, and Louise (Roach) Cook; and many other relatives.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
