August 6, 1990 – February 19, 2021
The funeral service for Ricqual LeCompte, 30, of Dunseith, ND and formerly of Eagle Butte was held Monday, March 8, 2021 at All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte. Burial was at LaPlant Congregational Cemetery in LaPlant under the direction of Oster Funeral Home of Mobridge.
Ricqual entered the Spirit World on February 19, 2021 at Trinity Hospital in Minot, ND.
Ricqual aka “Kiki” was born August 6, 1990, at the old IHS Hospital in Eagle Butte to Gayle A. Lofton and Richard G. LeCompte.
At two months old, Kiki became very ill and was diagnosed with bacterial spinal meningitis. After an extended stay in the hospital, her paternal grandparents offered to help care for her. She became her Grandma Ramona’s sidekick; she spent her time between her parents’ and grandparents’ homes until Rick’s passing in 1994.
Kiki began her new life apart from her mother and siblings. She and her aunt Sarah, who was the same age as her, became inseparable. While with her grandma, Kiki lived and attended school in various places then, at the age of 13, she moved to Sherwood, AR with her Aunt Mona LeCompte.
At the age of 10, Ricqual reconnected with her mother, Gayle, and her siblings Jordyn, Dustin, and D’Lani. Since childhood Kiki always had a protective, compassionate and nurturing nature. When she found out her baby sister needed a kidney transplant, she began to take the steps necessary to become a living donor. Although she was unable to gift her sister her kidney, her wish to become a donor was honored and her gift of life through organ donation saved the lives of three women.
Kiki was dedicated to her children. She was full-time stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Those who knew Kiki knew that she always willing to lend a helping hand, offer a meal and a place to stay.
Ricqual is survived by her six children: Ashley, Kira, Jamie, Xander, Jordan and Jayden; her mother, Gayle Lofton; brothers Dustin Brown of Eagle Butte and Tyler Neigel of Spearfish; sisters Jordyn Brown of Dupree, D’Lani LeCompte of Eagle Butte, Sarah Martinson of York, PA, and Tracie LeCompte of the Black Hills; maternal grandmother Theresa Lofton; paternal grandmother Ramona (Quentin) Love; paternal grandfathers Richard (Spunky) LaFramboise of North Dakota, and Chuck (Sharon) LeCompte; paternal great-grandfather Ivan LeCompte of Aberdeen; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and extended family members too numerous to mention.
She was preceded in death by her father, Richard G. LeCompte; cousin Tyler LeCompte; uncle Colt LeCompte; grandfathers JB Lofton, Clem White Dog Sr., Hank LeCompte, and Marvin LeCompte; Godmother Barb LeCompte; greatgrandmothers and great-grandfathers and special/best friend Gordon Machipiness.
