"Bob" Rieger, was the son of John and Pauline (Sonnefeldt) Rieger. He was born February 2, 1929, on the family ranch near Athboy, Corson County. He was baptized at the Twin Buttes Germany Lutheran Church on June 1, 1929 and confirmed at the Isabel Lutheran Church.

After being discharged, he went to Los Angeles, CA, and then hitchhiked his way to Memphis, TN, to find work. His assistance was needed on the family ranch, so Bob returned to Athboy. In 1955, he returned to the family ranch. He married Evelyn Peterson on September 7, 1956, and was blessed with five children.
