Robert Munyon

Mass of Christian Burial for Robert Munyon, 91, of Isabel will be at 10:30 a.m. MT on Thursday, August 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Isabel. Burial will be at Hillview Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge.

Visitation will start at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the church with a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Robert passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, near Timber Lake.

Robert Joseph Munyon was born on August 25, 1929 at Eastman, WI to Irvin and Margaret (Sprosty) Munyon of Coal Springs.

He attended Coal Springs School. Bob and his brother Jim rode horse six miles to school. He was a sheep herder for his parents and lived in a sheep wagon. There were no fences to hold animals in back then.

On September 28, 1950 Robert married Grace Witte at St. Bartholomew Church in Glad Valley. They had six children: Roberta, James, Larry, Dale, Susan and Nancy. They worked at his parents’ ranch until they moved to Isabel in 1971.

Robert worked at the elevator managed by Dick Fleming for two years. Grain dust affected his health. He then worked as a finish carpenter for Johnson Construction on low income housing and the Isabel Manor as well as scattered site homes through the years.

Robert was always building things, including a wood splitter and flatbed trailer, skid steer, an articulated tractor, a 9N Ford Tractor, hovercraft as well as creating lawn ornaments to sell at craft fairs for 10 years.

Robert is survived by his wife, Grace of Isabel; children, Roberta Munyon of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, James Munyon and Larry (Lori) Munyon of Jacksonville, FL, Dale (Sharon) Munyon of Belle Fourche, Susan (Dale) Locken of Gillette, WY, and Nancy (Jerome) Miller of Isabel; 11 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and one brother, Thomas;

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, James.
