Roy Hale

October 6, 1965 – May 5, 2023

Roy D. Hale Jr., 57, of Dupree passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.

Funeral services were held Saturday, May 13, 2023, at the United Church of Christ in Dupree. Burial was in the Dupree City Cemetery.

Roy Hale Jr. was born October 6, 1965, to Roy Hale Sr. and Lila (Red Bear) Hale in Eagle Butte. He grew up in Dupree.

Roy was a good carpenter and he also worked as a security guard for Red Lake Casino. Last year he worked for Standing Rock Housing, moving to a supervisor position after a time. He was very happy to get this position. Roy was a hard worker, and he was willing to help when needed.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers and his little sister, Mary Little Star. He taught his little sister all about hunting and fishing.

Roy came to know Jesus Christ in October of 2021, and was baptized November 14, 2021. Roy’s life took a turn for the better. He quit drinking, got his own place, and had a steady job. He often stood up in church and thanked Jesus for changing his life.

He is survived by his children: Brian Shock, Kyle Shock, Elisa Hahne, Kimimila Hale, and Akichita Hale; siblings Willard Yardley (Lil), Pam Hale, Hazel (Randy) Hahne, Karen (Chug) Garreau, David Hale, Mary (Travis) Little Star; and sister-in-law Wilma Yardley.

Roy is preceded in death by his son, Joseph Sky; parents; and siblings Albert Yardley, Leon (Purr) Hale, and Allen Hale.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
