Todd passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2022 at his home. Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge was in charge of arrangements.
Todd was born in Mobridge to Celestine (Thompson) and Anthony “Tony” Ducheneaux on May 8, 1965. Todd attended Promise Day School and Timber Lake School, graduating in 1983. Throughout Todd’s high school years he participated in: basketball, Letterman’s Club, homecoming, prom, football, rodeo club just to name a few. Todd was selected as allconference in football. He achieved and accomplished many challenges as his athleticism did not go unnoticed. He was offered a full paid scholarship to Northern State University. When his opportunity came, in Todd’s words, “They caught me on a bad day, and I turned it down.”
Todd was raised on the ranch, and ranched alongside his Dad. He made the decision to ranch and make this his livelihood and committed his life to ranching on the “Promise Land.”
Todd met Mary Jane Thompson “Janie” in February 1988. During their relationship, their first daughter Toni was born June 5, 1991 and first son, Dillon, was born July 14, 1992. Todd and Janie married December 3, 1993.
Todd took team roping seriously and entered rodeos, ropings and ranch rodeos. He was a header and could throw a rope like no other. Traveling all over to many events strengthened his ability and competitiveness. Todd also loved hunting and taught his children about hunting and the outdoors. Todd was a loving father and enjoyed spoiling his kids and grandkids.
On March 10, 2007 their second daughter, Hazyn Jane, was born, and October 8, 2009 their second son, Taten Todd, was born.
Todd was very creative and selftaught himself in leatherwork, woodwork, homemade ranch décor, braiding bridles, reins, lead ropes, halters and any kind of tack. He repaired saddles and did his own welding and repairing of equipment. One of Todd’s creations was a cross for his dad’s resting place made out of horseshoes.
Todd was very proud of his children. He enjoyed watching them in all the activities they participated in— Dillon’s rodeos, showdeos and ranch rodeos; Toni’s spelling bees, softball, cheerleading; Hazyn’s school concerts, track events; and Taten’s wrestling and football.
Todd helped his neighbors, lending a hand where he could. Although Todd and Janie decided to dissolve their marriage in February, 2012, they both remained committed to coparent and still gathered for holidays, birthdays, etc.
Todd is survived by his children: Toni (Luke Farlee), Dillon Dean, Hazyn Jane and Taten Todd Ducheneaux; grandchildren, Jayna and Jasper Farlee; sister Patrice “Pat” (Lyle) Linderman; brother-in-law Jody Totton; nephews Cory, Jace, Jade, Chris and AJ; niece Ali; ex-wife and mother of his children, Mary Jane Ducheneaux; Arlene Thompson (ex mother-in-law); and Godsons Cory Linderman and Hunter Smith.
