Truman Jarvis Haugstad, 93, of rural Spring Grove, MN passed away Dec. 11, 2020 at the home of his sister Elaine, where he had been staying since suffering a stroke more than three years ago.

Truman was born to Julius and Emma (Vick) Haugstad on Oct. 13, 1927. His parents loaded their cattle and horses on a train in 1914 and moved to the prairies of South Dakota and settled on a farm west of Isabel. After four years of drought they moved back to Spring Grove in 1918. They kept in touch through the Isabel Dakotan, which Truman continued until his death.

Truman was a lifelong farmer. He never married but enjoyed time with his many nieces and nephews. He attended a country school and graduated from the 8th grade.

Truman was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove, where he was a faithful member all his life.

Truman was very talented fixing clocks, watches, radios and TVs and anything his family would bring to him.

He is survived by his sisters, Carmona Wiste and Elaine Van Minsel, plus many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters and brothers-in-law, Edith and James Nerstad, Hazel and Arnold Moen, and Marjorie and Arthur Moen; brothers-in-law Arvid Wiste and Leo Van Minsel; and nephews Sanford and David Wiste, John and Ronald Nerstad, Donnie Van Minsel; and greatnephews Casey Knutson and Kaleb Hitchens and Jacob Onstad.

Private family services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Spring Grove with burial in Trinity Church Cemetery.
