Panthers fall to eventual champs in first round

By Robert Slocum

Timber Lake’s first state tournament game in 22 years was a memorable one, as the Panthers fought Sully Buttes in first round action. Timber Lake fought back from a slow first half on offense to climb back in the game in the second half and take the lead multiple times, but the Chargers emerged with a 62-53 win.

The Panthers were riding a 12- game winning streak to close the regular season and through the playoffs, having last lost 59-29 to Sully Buttes in January. Sully Buttes certainly had gotten no worse since then, but the Panthers’ presence at State and the scare they gave the Chargers Thursday night was proof of how TLHS has improved this season.

The Panthers overcame a rough shooting performance with a gritty effort and used a few clutch baskets down the stretch to advance 38-37 to the consolation championship.
