Isabel board exploring options to reduce deer population
The deer population in Isabel has grown to the point that town officials believe the animals are becoming a public safety hazard. These white-tailed deer were spotted in town in the middle of the afternoon and were part of a group of nearly 30 animals. Photo by Jon Flatland
According to the 2020 U.S. Census, the community of Isabel is officially home to 145 people. That's up from 135 residents in 2010.
It's not the small increase in residents that has town officials concerned, but rather, an explosion in the local deer population. That concern led to a discussion at a town board meeting on Monday, Oct. 4 about reducing and controlling the herd.
