Dot Campbell’s photos to be available during McIntosh Alumni Tiger Days

The family of Dorothy Campbell (Dot’s Photo”) will be in McIntosh on July 17 and 18, during the McIntosh Tiger Roundup, to distribute photos to Dorothy’s former clients. This “last chance” opportunity to obtain photos and negatives will be at her home (304 1st Ave. West in McIntosh).

This Days of 1910 buckle from Timber Lake’s 100th anniversary will be auctioned off by the Timber Lake Rodeo Association on Thursday, July 23 during this year’s Days of 190 festivities. The TLRA and Western Dakota Bank are sponsoring the free supper beginning at 5:30 in the tent, and the auction of 4-H cookies and pies and the 100th anniversary buckle will follow, just before the annual talent show begins.

This Days of 1910 buckle from Timber Lake’s 100th anniversary will be auctioned off by the Timber Lake Rodeo Association on Thursday, July 23 during this year’s Days of 190 festivities. This painting, “Negotiating the Release,” by Lakota artist Del Iron Cloud, was commissioned by Dr. Paul Carpenter in 1997. It depicts the Fool Soldiers (right) negotiating with Chief White Lodge for the release of white women and children he took captive during the 1862 conflict in Minnesota. Proceeds from the sale of prints continue to support scholarships for descendants of the Fool Soldiers. The painting is one of the scenes in the Sea of Grass exhibit at the Timber Lake Museum.

Gathering brings together descendants of Shetek captives, Fool Soldier liberators

On July 16 a gathering at the CRST Lakota Cultural Center in Eagle Butte will bring together descendants of the Fool Soldiers, a band of young Lakota warriors, and relatives of the people they ransomed and rescued in 1862.

Farmers Union brings day camp to Timber Lake

South Dakota Farmers Union hosted a day camp in Timber Lake on June 17. Youth spent the afternoon focused on learning more about the history of cooperatives through games and interactive lessons. They made crafts and had an electrical safety demonstration by Moreau-Grand Electric.

Area students named to SDSU Dean’s List

At South Dakota State University (SDSU) in Brookings 3,941 students were recognized for outstanding academic performance during the spring semester. To earn a Dean’s List distinction, students must have completed a minimum of 12 credits and have a GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
