My wife and kids and I have gone on many vacations.We generally think of somewhere we haven’t been or somewhere our kids would be certain to enjoy and go there, throwing all caution to the wind, seeing, doing, eating, and enjoying everything in our path within self-prescribed spending limits.

America’s 250th Anniversary is the theme for Dupree’s annual Pioneer Days celebration Friday through Sunday, June 26-28.HonoreesSpecial honorees for this year’s Pioneer Days are Jim and Carolyn Brooks. Jim has lived in the Lantry/ Dupree area for 61 years and Carolyn has been a resident for 43.

Gavin White, a member of the Timber Lake High School Rodeo Club, punched his ticket to the South Dakota High School Finals Rodeo already underway in Ft. Pierre with an impressive 8 second ride during Northwest Region Rodeo competition in Dupree last weekend.

Let the voting begin - again.The Republican primary race for Governor is moving to another phase. For the first time in South Dakota’s history, there will be a statewide primary runoff to determine the Republican party candidate for Governor. The election will be held July 28.

Planting season is going excellently so far, according to Agronomist Mike Huber at Agtegra in McLaughlin. The weather has been rather favorable, with good moisture during planting.As the growing season continues, there have been some patches that have been too dry, while others have been too wet.

YMCA sponsors Summer Food Service Program

The YMCA is sponsoring the Summer Food Service Program which provides lunch, snacks and suppers (at some locations) to children free of charge. The program will run from June 1 to August 7.
