Coal Springs Threshing Show approaching Sept. 27-29

Preparations are nearing completion for the 26th annual Coal Springs Threshing Bee and Antique Show, set Sept. 27-29 at the showgrounds just south of the Meadow corner on SD Highway 73.Allis Chalmer is the featured tractor manufacturer this year, however, all tractors are welcome.

Local students earn Build Dakota scholarships

The Build Dakota Scholarship Program announced this week that television personality, author and advocate for the skilled trades, Mike Rowe, will visit South Dakota at the end of September to celebrate the program's 10th anniversary.

CRST granted funds to purchase local foods for local distribution

Armed with a $3.5 million Local Food Purchases Assistance (LFPA) grant through the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture, the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is creating an enhanced food distribution program using locally-purchased meat and produce for free distribution to local residents.

Local senior meals program shutting down

Just over a year after moving from Isabel to Timber Lake, the Meals on Wheels program that serves meals to senior residents in both communities is discontinuing the service this Friday, Sept. 13.A public town hall meeting at which the site will be discussed is scheduled at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept.

General fund, roads and bridges top proposed county budget items

The Dewey County Commission discussed some possible changes to the proposed 2025 budget at its Sept. 3 meeting but will not make final decisions until a follow-up meeting scheduled for September 26.The proposed 2025 budget totals $3,739,645, which is $56,437 more than the 2024 budget of $ 3,683,208.

Newspapers in Faith, Bison under new ownership

Two area weekly newspapers – The Faith Independent and The Bison Courier – are under new ownership. Philip-based Ravellette Publications sold the publications to Krissy Stocklin-Johnson, an employee of the Independent, and her husband, Russel.
