American Legion Auxiliary Essay, Poem, and Poppy Poster winners

American Legion Auxiliary Isabel Unit 120 and Timber Lake Unit 83 announce the 1st and 2nd place winners of the local and district essay, poem and poppy posters contests. Essay winners Class I 3rd grade: 1. Ada O’Leary (1st place District winner) and Elyse Parker; 2. Andrew O’Bryan and Baicyn Lei.

Maher wins Junior High titles in N.D., advances to Nationals

Pete Maher of rural McLaughlin had a busy couple of days at North Dakota Jr. High School Finals Rodeo held Friday and Saturday, May 1718, in Bowman, ND, capturing state championships in breakaway roping and goat tying while winning reserve champion in bull riding and finishing third in team roping.

CeCe Cowan of Eagle Butte captured top honors in pole bending at the South Dakota Jr. High School Rodeo Finals held Friday through Saturday, May 17-19, in Rapid City. Cowan, a sixth grader at Timber Lake School, was crowned state champ after times of 20.665 and 20.

Dupree rodeo team members garner All-Around buckles

Sophomore Minda Woodward and junior Braydon Terveen-Smith of the Dupree High School Rodeo Team garnered All-Around honors on May 5 at the Philip High School Rodeo. Woodward grabbed first place in barrels with a 17.74 second run and was eighth in breakaway with a time of 4.79 seconds.
