New Dewey Co. Sheriff’s Office recruit undergoing field training

A 26-year-old Mobridge man has been sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff for Dewey County. Tristan Sippert began field training with deputies Kyle Nilson and Trista Bulit on February 26. Sheriff Ash Arpan says the new recruit will attend the 13-week law enforcement training in Pierre within the next year.

Bob Berndt of Eagle Butte has filed a petition for another 4-year term on the Dewey County Commission for District 4. Berndt, a Democrat, is the incumbent. Incumbent Colleen Meier of Timber Lake, an Independent, has filed a petition for Dewey County Treasurer, also a four-year term.

County adopts new cattle guard policy

The annual county equalization board meeting, a policy on cattle guards, closing dates for Easter, and more were on the March 7 agenda of the Dewey County Commission’s meeting. The board set the annual equalization meeting for Thursday, April 11.

Nicole Gordon, executive director of the Central South Dakota Enhancement District reviewed the services available to Dewey County and the cities which are members.

Eagle Butte man dies after being struck by car while in Pierre

A 60-year-old Eagle Butte man sufferd fatal injuries last Friday, March 1, when he was struck by a vehicle in Pierre. Authorities say a 2010 Dodge Caravan was being driven by 57-yearold Keven K. Klein of Pierre when he suffered a seizure and blacked out.

Corps received 200K comments on DAPL

An official for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said the agency is on schedule to issue a final environmental impact statement this fall on the Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) with a record of the decision expected 30-60 days thereafter.
