SDSU Beef Quality Assurance training set in Timber Lake

SDSU Extension is offering two Beef Quality Assurance (BQA) training courses on January 30 in Mound City and Timber Lake. The first training will begin at 1:00 PM CT in Mound City at the MC83 Bar. Corner Grill and Bar will be the site for the 6:30 PM MT training in Timber Lake.

The Dewey County Commission began the new year on January 2 with the annual reorganization meeting, where Bob Berndt was reelected chairman and Bob Keckler vice-chair. Other commissioners are Rod Enright, Dee Ann Lawrence and Mandy Locken.

Iron Rope gets prison time for sex offender violations

A 50-year-old Eagle Butte man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison after he was convicted of failure to register as a sex offender on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation. Rydell Iron Rope was sentenced by U.S. District Court Judge Roberto A.
Dewey County officials are considering building an addition to the courthouse to create a fireproof vault room to house Register of Deeds records. The photo shows the north side of the building where the addition would be built. Register of Deeds Deborah Goldade has been accumulating funds for that purpose for several years and at their December 28 yearend meeting, the county commissioners voted to hire HKG Architects of Aberdeen to prepare some options for the project.

At its annual meeting on December 20, the Timber Lake Rodeo Association re-elected Shaun Maher as president, Derek Long as vice-president, Rusty Gebhardt as secretary and Brent Schweitzer as treasurer. Patrick Maher was replaced by J.J. Hunt as a director.

Christmas Tree Contest raises $700 for Museum

The glittery red and white Christmas tree (#14) decorated by the Auditor’s Office won the Christmas Tree Contest at the Dewey County Courthouse. The 14 trees, each decorated by one of the county offices, collected $706.36 in cash donations which will go to the Timber Lake Museum.
