County gifts Main St. lot in Eagle Butte

At its year-end meeting on December 28, the Dewey County Commission voted to gift a Main Street lot in Eagle Butte to Four Bands Community Fund and to hire an architect to prepare options for building a vault for the Register of Deeds office.

Wounded Knee descendants agree to discuss handling of artifacts from 1890 massacre

The descendants of survivors of the massacre at Wounded Knee agreed last week to enter discussion with several South Dakota tribes on what to do with artifacts taken from the battle site, halting plans to burn the items during a ceremony on Friday, Dec. 29 - the 133rd anniversary of the event.

Moccasins, clothing and other items were taken off victims at the Wounded Knee Massacre in 1890. Some of those items are now being returned to survivors and their ancestors.

CRST Buffalo Authority receives 54 bison through American Prairie
