US House committee passes Wounded Knee bill

Last Tuesday, June 13, the Wounded Knee Massacre Memorial and Sacred Site Act, led by U.S. Representative Dusty Johnson (RSD) passed out of the House Natural Resources Committee. The bill was introduced in May to memorialize the land where hundreds of Lakota Indians were massacred by the U.S. Army.

TLHS Class of ’58 to have reunion

The Timber Lake High School Class of 1958 will celebrate with a 65year reunion on July 29. Classmates will gather at Gene Keller’s Country Cabins and RV Park at Mobridge beginning at 1 p.m. CT. A catered meal will be served at 6:00.

McLaughlin gets funding to help improve drinking water

The community of McLaughlin is among the latest in the state to be awarded a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to help fund improvements to its drinking water system. McLaughlin will receive $770,000 to put towards the project. The cities of Philip and Cresbard received similar awards.

Two local educators were recognized when the South Dakota Elementary Principals’ Association (SDEPA) and the SD Association of Secondary School Principals (SDASSP) held their annual professional development conference in Deadwood June 12-14.
