Timber Lake Topic June 7, 1973 Eagle Butte man wins local golf tournament Larry Mendoza of Eagle Butte won the championship flight in the annual Men’s Invitational Golf Tournament held at the Timber Lake golf course, Sunday. Mr. Mendoza shot a 74 over the 18-hole par 72 course.

Timber Lake community invited to help with youth event

Kyle Nilson, Shad Bollinger, and Shanna Martin spent approximately 24 hours learning about the Community Organized Resources for Educating (C.O.R.E.) program called Freshman Impact. As certified local coordinators for the program, they will be holding a community meeting on June 20 at 5 p.m.

The Ziebach County Historical Society will be holding several activities during Dupree’s Pioneer Days Celebration. The ZCHS Silent Auction fundraiser is set for Saturday, June 24 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Harry’s Hall.

Chief White Horse’s Winter Count is foundation of new museum exhibit

The grand opening of the new White Horse Winter Count exhibit at the Timber Lake and Area Museum will be held Sunday, June 25. The museum, located at 802 Main Street in Timber Lake, will open at noon MT and a program will begin at 2:00 MT. The public is invited.

The Dewey County Commission appointed a new commissioner and voted to advertise for an Emergency Manager at the June 8 meeting. Other business included repairs to county buildings damaged in the July 2022 hail storm and the opening of the treasurer’s satellite office in Eagle Butte.

Suspect in CRST officer-involved shooting remains under hospital care

The suspect shot and wounded during an alleged assault on a Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Police officer in Cherry Creek on May 27 remains hospitalized in Rapid City while formal charges have been sent to the tribe’s prosecuting attorney and the FBI has taken over a portion of the investigation.

Court of Appeals upholds dismissal of Kenel Rd. suit

The 8th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals last week upheld a lower court’s decision to dismiss a federal lawsuit brought by the families of victims in a 2019 road washout on the Standing Rock Sioux Reservation that resulted in the deaths of two people and serious injuries to two others.
