State minimum wage increases January 1

The state minimum wage will increase from $9.95/hour to $10.80 per hour effective Jan. 1, 2023. The minimum wage is annually adjusted by any increase in the cost of living, as measured in the Consumer Price Index published by the U.S. Department of Labor.

School district places order for 2024 bus

Keeping to a schedule of upgrading its bus fleet every two to three years, the Timber Lake School Board last week placed an order for a new 77-passenger bus that is expected to be delivered prior to the start of the 2024 school year.

Isabel restricts landfill hours due to dumpster fires

The town of Isabel is restricting the hours the community landfill is open after dealing with two dumpster fires in the past month, both showing evidence of being started intentionally. The landfill will only be open under supervision from 1-3 p.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays.

New exhibit opens Nov. 6 at Cultural Heritage Center

The South Dakota State Historical Society Museum in the Cultural Heritage Center in Pierre will open its new exhibit titled “The Great and the Small: Selections from the Collections” on Sunday, Nov. 6. The exhibit runs through Memorial Day weekend in 2023.

Moreau-Grand members gather for co-op’s annual meeting

Members and guests from Dewey, Ziebach and Corson counties - the area served by Moreau-Grand Electric - gathered at Timber Lake on October 7 for the co-op’s 76th annual meeting. In the only election this year, Paul Lawrence defeated Carl Petersen 19-5 for the District 4 seat on the board.
