Communities receive grants for infrastructure projects

Planned projects to improve wastewater systems in three area communities received partial funding last Friday, May 27, with Gov. Kristi Noem’s office announcing the awarding just over $2.3 million to assist Timber Lake, Isabel and Dupree.

Next Tuesday, June 7 is Primary Election Day in South Dakota. Statewide, the polls are open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time. Absentee voting has been underway since April 22. Absentee ballots can be requested until 5 p.m on June 6. Primary ballots were published in local legal newspapers last week.

Local highway improvements underway

Chip seal and fog seal applications are being applied to several area highways beginning this week and will continue on days the weather permits. The South Dakota Department of Transportation says the chip seal and fog seal projects are planned for: - S.D. Highway 20 – 41.

Over-width equipment hours extended

On Monday, May 23 Gov. Kristi Noem signed Executive Order 2022- 04, which provides relief to farmers who have had to delay planting due to weather and soil conditions by allowing them to move over-width farming equipment from two hours before sunrise to two hours after sunset.

On 5/16/2022 at 5:43 pm, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a burglary alarm at a business in McLaughlin. It was found to be a false alarm. On 5/16/2022 at 6:49 pm, the Corson County Sheriff’s Office conducted a traffic stop on Highway 65, four miles north of the county line.

Two charged in Little Eagle shooting

Two men have been charged in connection with an April 29 shooting in Little Eagle that injured a four-year-old child. According to the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Raul Mata and Taylor Fast Horse were arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody.
