Arpan to replace Assman as Dewey County Sheriff

At a special meeting on April 14, the Dewey County Commissioners accepted the resignation of County Sheriff Dan Assman effective May 25 and appointed Chief Deputy Ashley Arpan to replace him.

Ranchers still digging out from deadly blizzard

A late-season blizzard that produced several inches of heavy, wet snow last week brought welcomed moisture to the drought-stricken region, but because of the timing, came at a heavy cost to area ranchers in the middle of calving season.

The Timber Lake Fire Dept. responded to a grass fire on the southeast edge of Timber Lake about 4:10 p.m. Sunday, April 10, and knocked back a blaze that threatened at least one home.

Fire claims man’s life

A 72-year-old Lantry man died last Wednesday, April 6, when his residence was destroyed by fire. Dewey County Sheriff Dan Assman said Richard Stone was the lone occupant of the residence at the time of the blaze.

Two die in 212 collision

Two men died in a head-on collision on Highway 212 west of Ridgeview on Saturday, April. The victims were identified as the drivers of the vehicles — Richard (Rick) Rousseau, 61, and Edward Crow Feather, 51, both of Ridgeview.

County boards to meet Thursday

The Dewey County Commissioners, as members of the County and Consolidated Board of Equalization, will meet Thursday, April 14 at 1 p.m. at the courthouse.
