130 SD National Guard soldiers deploying to Germany

The South Dakota National Guard announced Monday that about 130 Mitchell-based soldiers have been activated for overseas service in Germany.The 665th Support Maintenance Company will deploy to Grafenwöhr Training Area, the U.S. Army’s largest permanent training site in Europe.

State vet warns horse owners about Equine Herpes Virus

South Dakota State Veterinarian Mendel B. Miller issued a warning last week about a highly contagious deadly virus that is rapidly spreading through horses in a half-dozen states.
Volunteers had to be called in to push out a Takini School bus that became stuck on one of the nearly impassable roads in the Cottonwood area on Tuesday, Nov. 25. No students were on the bus at the time it became stuck. Schools across the area cancelled classes and activities on Tuesday due to dangerous travel conditions.
