South Dakota News Watch and Dakota Wesleyan University are again sponsoring the state spelling bee that will send a winner to the 2026 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.DWU will host the state competition Saturday, Feb. 7, at its campus in Mitchell.

Children’s Theater

The Dakota Players, an outreach program of the Black Hills Playhouse, visited Timber Lake Middle School last week to assist students in presenting “You Look Marvelous!” The presentation involved 55 students serving as actors, assistant directors and more.

Safety first when dealing with natural gas this winter

With winter right around the corner, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission is highlighting the importance of following natural gas safety recommendations, including keeping natural gas meters and vents clear of snow and ice, all season long.

All State Chorus

Free college application period ends Nov. 30

South Dakota’s annual Free College Application Period, a key initiative to increase awareness of higher education opportunities across the state, continues through Nov. 30 allowing high school seniors to apply to any of the state’s public universities and technical colleges free of charge.
