Sobriety checkpoints

A total of 15 sobriety checkpoints in 12 different counties are planned during the month of February by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The monthly checkpoints are designed to discourage drivers from drinking and then driving.

COVID response moves to Level 3

As of Monday, Feb. 1, the Cheyenne River Reservation moved to Level 3 of the CRST COVID-19 Response Plan after many weeks at Level 4 and before that, the highest level, 5. The number of active COVID cases in Dewey and Ziebach counties was at 14 on Monday, the lowest in several months.

Hepper found guilty at trial

After a trial before a magistrate judge on January 29, Wayne Hepper, 57, of Kenel was found guilty of failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, a class 2 misdemeanor.

On January 19 at 8:55 p.m., the Corson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a residence in McLaughlin to assist BIA Law Enforcement. During an assist and investigation, an abundance of drug paraphernalia was found throughout a residence.
