Commissioners say no to employee bonuses

A motion to use some of the county’s share of coronavirus relief money to pay a bonus to employees failed at the year-end meeting of the Dewey County Commission. Commissioner Dee Ann Lawrence of Eagle Butte proposed a bonus at the Dec. 29 special meeting. Her motion failed for lack of a second.

Kyle Nilson of Timber Lake, who has been a deputy for the Dewey County Sheriff’s Office since June 1, 2020, is now attending law enforcement training in Pierre. The training covers all aspects of law enforcement including laws, communications, firearms, emergencies, and physical training.

Covid cases rising again

A report issued by the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) Public Health Task Force on the 10-day mandatory lockdowns of the communities of Eagle Butte and Cherry Creek in December shows the effort successfully slowed the spread of the coronavirus.

Timber Lake School seeks nominations for awards

The Timber Lake School District is seeking nominations from the public for "Teacher of the Year" and "Support Staff Member of the Year." Nominations may be made by Timber Lake School staff, parents, students or community members.

City board approves lease for CRSTTA access to water tower

At a special end-of-year meeting on Monday night, the Timber Lake City Board approved a lease agreement with CRST Telephone Authority for use of the city water tower to install equipment needed to provide broadband service to rural students.
