October 14, 1951 – September 26, 2023
Kent Alan Jewett passed away on September 26, 2023, in Mesa, AZ.
He was born October 14, 1951 to Merriel Elaine (McMacken) Jewett and Jack Warren Jewett on his parents’ ranch near Isabel.
He grew up in the ranching communities in South Dakota and moved to Arizona in 1975.
He became a heavy equipment operator and had his own successful grading business until his retirement.
Kent spent most of his life outside, whether it was shooting guns, riding his motorcycle, building something in the garage, or simply spending time with friends on the patio. He was much loved for his humorous stories of his life adventures. He had a love for animals, especially horses, but one of his best pals was his red cattle dog mix, “Rusty.” And despite what he may have said in the past, he loved cats, too.
His home was welcome to anyone, and he was a very gracious host – the BBQ grill was always hot, and the beers always cold. Kent was often called upon by friends and neighbors for help and he never hesitated. Whether it was to grade the road after a heavy storm, remove brush or downed trees, or lend his tools to those in need – he never accepted payment. He simply did these things out of the kindness of his heart and all he asked in return was that his tools were returned, and, in the condition that they were borrowed. He treated his friends and his family with the utmost support, respect, and most of all, his unwavering love.
Kent is survived by his sisters Kelly (Mike) Jalayne Charvoz and Shar Jewett; son Jason Verry; stepson Jason Best; stepdaughters Callie (Mark) MacDougall and Sara (Jaime) Gonzalez; niece Amy Michele Clancy; and nephews Chris Charvoz and Brennen Clancy.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jack Jewett and Merriel Zimmer, and sister, Joyce Marie MacKenzie.
A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., October 28, 2023, at Messinger Mortuary, 7601 E Indian School Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251.
