Dorothy Eliason, 99, Gettysburg, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2024, at her home.

Mass of Christian Burial was April 15, 2024, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg. Burial was in the church cemetery at Gettysburg.

Dorothy Briscoe was born August 24, 1924, in Coal Springs, the eighth of ten children born to Joe and Maude (Harris) Briscoe. She attended country school and graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1942, where she was homecoming queen and served as a D.A.R. representative to Chicago in 1942.

Following high school, Dorothy attended one year at Northern Normal Teacher’s College, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught school for three years and worked at Miller Clothing Store.

On February 23, 1947, Dorothy married Bill Eliason. To this union four children were born. They lived on a farm west of Gettysburg. In 1979, she moved into Gettysburg and went to work at Nold Vet Supply, working there until her retirement.

Dorothy was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Altar Society, and the Oahe Matron Extension Club. She was also active in her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s activities.

Dorothy is survived by her children: Larry Eliason of Pierre, Pat (Randy) Harer and Kay (Larry) Schmidt of Gettysburg, and Sue (Kelly) Glodt of Pierre; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, and four sisters. Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was in charge of arrangements.
