2021 Badlands Circuit awards include honors for local tie-down roping, barrel racing horses

McLaughlin to play Saturday for All-Nations State B championship

The McLaughlin Mustangs blew past Omaha Nation, NE, 36-6 in the All-Nations Conference B football playoffs last Friday to advance to the State B championship game. The third-seeded Mustangs, 7-2 on the season, will square off against top-seed Tiospa Zina Wambdi, 8-1,. on Saturday, Nov. 6, at 1 p.m.

TL Junior High girls win hoops season opener

The Timber Lake Jr. High girls basketball team opened its hardcourt season last Tuesday, Oct. 26, with a 55-20 win over Ft. Yates, ND. Katelyn Biegler led a balanced Panther scoring attack with a team-high 11 points while Jaylee Schoelerman and Ruby Maher netted 10 points each.

Timber Lake vs. Lyman expected to be a shootout

What happens when two of the state’s highest scoring offenses and stingiest defenses meet head-to-head? We’re going to find out on Thursday, Oct. 28, when No. 5-seeded Timber Lake meets No. 4 seed Lyman in State Class 9AA quarterfinal action in Presho. Both teams enter the contest with 8-1 records.

All-LMC football honors announced

Eight members of the Timber Lake Panther football team have earned All-Little Moreau Conference honors. The Panthers won the conference title and are currently 8-1 heading into the State Class 9AA semifinals.

Ward, Elshere capture INFR world championships

Tatum Ward of White Horse and Cole Elshere of Faith were crowned world champions in their respective events at the Indian National Finals Rodeo (INFR) held in Las Vegas, NV, Oct. 21-24. Ward won the barrel racing crown while Elshere dominated the saddle bronc riding competition.

TL’s Beyer caps high school XC career with 11th place at State

Less than a month after returning from injury and with just four races under his belt this season, Timber Lake senior Ian Beyer capped his high school cross country career last Friday, Oct. 22, with an 11th place finish at the State Class B Cross Country Meet in Yankton.

Enright recognized by Panther program

Rod Enright was honored prior to the start of the Timber Lake vs. Leola-Frederick football game last Thursday for 50 years as a spotter, announcer and coach for Timber Lake High School athletics. Turning out for the occasion was his family.
