TL Youth Wrestling Club qualifies 16 for State meet

The fledgling Timber Lake Youth Wrestling Club got off to a strong start to begin its first-ever season and hopes to end it the same way at the SDWCA State Finals set March 15-17 in Rapid City. Wrestling at the District 3 regionals last weekend, 16 members of the club qualified for the State Finals, including seven who captured individual regional championships.

Girls lead state meet qualifiers for Dupree club

Seven members of the Dupree Youth Wrestling Club, including five girls, advanced out of the SDWCA District 3 regional tournament and qualified to compete at the state wrestling meet slated March 15-17 in Rapid City.

Timber Lake teams recognized for academic achievement

The Timber Lake and Mobridge-Pollock schools have been recognized by the South Dakota High School Activities Association for academic achievement in various extracurricular activities. In order to qualify for the Academic Achievement Award, teams or groups must achieve or exceed a cumulative 3.0 grade point average during the 2023-2024 school year.

Lady Panthers eliminated by third-ranked Harding County

After knocking off a scrappy Wakpala team in the opening round, the Timber Lake Lady Panthers were eliminated from the Region 8B Girls Basketball Tournament last week by undefeated and third-ranked Harding County. Timber Lake finished the 202324 season at 8-14 overall.

Mustang matmen compete at State B Tournament

Two members of the McLaughlin-Timber Lake Mustang wrestling co-op competed at the State Class B Wrestling Tournament in Sioux Falls with one just missing out on being a placewinner. Representing the Mustangs was senior Even Hertel at 120 pounds and sophomore Quentin White Mountain in the 215 pound division.

Knife-Brewer family honors basketball teams with star quilts

As the Dupree High School seniors played their last regular season home game, the Knife/Brewer family gifted beautiful star quilts, made by Dolly Knife using basketball print material in each quilt, to the seniors that had played basketball this year. The family also presented quilts to the boys’ basketball coaches, Jeremy Meeks and Danny Marshall, as well as to JH student Jack Lawrence in memory of his brother, Henry, who had been in this class at DHS, and to Charlie Brooks in thanks for the many years he’s driven the bus for the teams as they traveled to basketball games.
