Mobridge native trains Kentucky Derby winner

The trainer of the horse that won Saturday’s Kentucky Derby is originally from Mobridge.Sovereignty had 7-1 odds of winning the 1¼ mile long Kentucky Derby for four-time trainer of the year Bill Mott, but the colt did it in a time of 2:02.31. The win was worth $3.

TL girls fifth, boys seventh at Charger Invite

Senior Jasmine Nash scored her third consecutive win in the shot put last Tuesday, April 22, helping the Timber Lake Panther girls to a fifth place team finish at the Charger Invitational in Sully Buttes.

Panther golfers post top three finishes

Timber Lake’s golf teams turned in strong performances last week with the varsity boys earning a three-way tie for second place at the Philip Invitational while the junior varsity boys landed third overall at the Potter County JV Invitational in Gettysburg.

Dupree’s Red Bear sets new school record in 3200 meter

Eighth grader Maddlyn Red Bear set a new Dupree High School record in the 3200 meter run to lead the Tiger track teams at the 2025 Center of the Nation Invitational Track Meet in Belle Fourche last Wednesday, April 16.Red Bear garnered the only top finish of the day for Dupree, clocking in at 12:4.

High school rodeo season begins next Friday

The 2025 South Dakota High School Rodeo season will get underway next Friday, May 2, with the Cuatro Crown Practice Rodeo which continues through Sunday, May 4, in Wagner, Burke and Geddes. Also on May 3 is the Wall Rodeo.
