High School rodeo season kicks off April 22-23

The 2023 South Dakota High School Rodeo season gets underway on Saturday and Sunday, April 22-23, with the New Underwood practice rodeo slated in Rapid City.

Mason Schrempp, a sophomore at Aberdeen High School, was named a 10th Grade All-American at the Adidas Wrestling Nationals held April 6-8 in Indpendence, MO. Schrempp placed third in the 145 pound division at the South Dakota State High School Tournament this season. An all-conference and all-state selection, he also earned his 100th career win. An enrolled member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, he is the son of Roy Veit and Ricki (Schrempp) Link and the grandson of Joe and Tammy Schrempp.

Rosters for the 2023 Lakota All Star Basketball Games were announced last week with several area players selected to the rosters for the boys and girls high school basketball games. This year's event will be held April 29 at the Monument in Rapid City.

Seven members of the Cheyenne-Eagle Butte (C-EB) Ohitika Archery Team posted top 10 finishes at the South Dakota NASP State Archery Tournament in Spearfish last week, qualifying them for the NASP Nationals.

Pederson leads Dupree Tigers at NSU Track Invite

The Dupree Tigers kicked off the
2023 track season with four first place finishes at the NSU Track Invitational in Aberdeen on Tuesday, March 21, including two by junior speedster Jessup Pederson.
Pederson won the boys’ 200 meter run with a time of 24.99 seconds and clocked in at 2:16.

Area youth wrestlers were among more than 1,500 who converged on Aberdeen last weekend, March 24-25, for the South Dakota State AAU Wrestling Tournament, with five coming away with top 10 finishes including a girls state champion from McIntosh.
