Gritz (Long) Hubbard has been visiting family and friends in the Timber Lake area over the days of 1910. Sunday, her sisters, Babe Remmers and Hooley Maher, stopped in at Sweenie Mowrer’s to say goodbye. Gritz rode with Babe to Bismarck on Tuesday to fly back to Texas.

A new report on federallysupported boarding schools for Native American children says at least 33 of the students who died while attending them - and likely more - were from the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe and other tribes in South Dakota.

Long sentenced to 65 years for felony crimes against kids

A 40-year-old Sturgis man convicted in May of 11 counts of felony crimes involving five different children was sentenced last week in Corson County Circuit Court to serve 65 years in prison.Lance Lowell Long, formerly of rural Isabel, was sentenced last Monday, July 29.

BIA increases payment limits on social services programs

The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) has increased payment limits for certain financial assistance and social services programs which directly support American Indian and Alaska Native families and individuals. The hike marks the first increase in these payment amounts since 2000.
