On Saturday, Jared Hollenbeck and Kyrie Lemburg watched Mason Hollenbeck play basketball at the youth tournament in Timber Lake. His team won first place in the 5th grade division. On Sunday, Jared and Mason went to Mobridge to visit Kim, Beth and Abby Hollenbeck and Paige Karow.

March 15 is deadline to report owner-occupied property

New homeowners in South Dakota have until March 15 to apply for owner-occupied classification on their property, which provides property tax relief through a reduced school general fund levy. Any South Dakotan who owned and occupied a home before November 1, 2023 is eligible at this time.

Mobridge garners team honors at Panther Invite

The Mobridge Youth Wrestling Club claimed the team title at the first-ever Panther Wrestling Invitational held last Thursday, Feb. 30, in Timber Lake, beating Timber Lake and Dupree. Mobridge racked up 203 points while Dupree finished with 123 and the first-year program from Timber Lake scored 88.

Three local cowboys advance to semifinal round at RodeoHouston

Three local cowboys - a saddle bronc rider and two bull riders - advanced last week into the semifinal round at RodeoHouston, held Feb. 27 to March 17 in Houston, TX. Competing in Super Series I, Cole Elshere of Faith finished fifth in round one with a 78.

Three petitions filed for county offices

Three candidates have filed petitions to run for Dewey County offices. Mandy Locken of Isabel has filed as an Independent for a two-year term as District 1 Commissioner. She was appointed in 2023 to replace the late John Meginness and is running for the remainder of his four-year term.

Road equipment is being moved to the new Dewey County Highway Shop, located on the hill north of the Timber Lake rodeo grounds. Highway Supt. Will Wiedmer says the office cannot be moved to the new location until the CRST Telephone Authority installs the fiber broadband service.
