Rise and Grind 5k and Fun Run set for August 27

Grounded Coffee & Gifts is hosting a first time event, the Rise and Grind 5K and Fun Run. The races are scheduled for Saturday, August 27, starting and ending at Grounded, located in The Junction on Main Street, Timber Lake.

Fireworks, Sixth Street drainage on Timber Lake City agenda

The Timber Lake City Council took steps last week toward changing the fireworks ordinance, improving drainage on 6th Street, and purchasing a skid steer. The 2023 budget and haying of city properties were also on the agenda for the August 9 meeting.

Correction

In its coverage of the Isabel Town Board in the Aug. 11 issue, the Topic inadvertently reported that Trustee Daryl Pfaff voted against amendments to the cannabis licensing when in fact he voted in favor of those amendments.

Calendars

The September Community Calendars for Timber Lake-Isabel and Dupree will be published in the Topic next week. Anyone who has events to list is asked to contact the Topic by noon on Monday, August 22.

Rita Long hired for 4-H position

At its August 11 meeting, the Dewey County Commission voted to hire Rita Long of Timber Lake as the 4-H program assistant. Long, a retired teacher, will begin the 24-hour per week position after some training with the SDSU Extension Service.

Office closed

The Register of Deeds Office at the Dewey County Courthouse in Timber Lake will be closed on Friday, August 19.

Classes begin

Classes at Timber Lake School began Wednesday, August 17. For anyone who missed it, the extra copies of the Topic’s Back-to-School section are available at the Topic and the school.

Celebrating 100 years

On Sunday, August 21 the Holy Spirit Chapel (“Old Stone Church”) north of Firesteel will host a 100-year anniversary dedication and blessing with the Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of South Dakota, The Right Rev. Dr. Jonathan H. Folts of Pierre, and Rev. Kim Fonder of Wakpala presiding.
