CRST to hold primary election August 9

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe primary election will be held next Tuesday, August 9. Voters will choose candidates for chairman and treasurer. The top two vote getters will face off in the November 8 general election. There is only one candidate for secretary.

Eagle Butte shooting victims identified, suspect in custody

Authorities have released the names of two men fatally shot after attending the Oceti Sakowin Fest 2002 in Eagle Butte on Saturday, July 23. According to Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) Law Enforcement, the victims were Trayden Wells and Miles “Avery” Phillips, both tribal members.

Three chosen for community scholarships

The Timber Lake & Area Historical Society has awarded three $3000 Community Scholarships from the Urban scholarship Fund. Recipients are Rachael Goldade of Timber Lake, Troy Lindskov of Tempe, AZ, and Levi Long of Dickinson, ND.

The Ziebach County Historical Society held the 6th annual Fun Run during Pioneer Days Celebration. There were 33 machines entered — 7 golf carts, 18 side-by sides, five 4-wheelers and three lawn mowers.
