State to dedicate two bridges in honor of local fallen heroes

A pair of Armed Forces members who were killed in action will have local highway bridges named for them on Saturday, June 25, during Dupree's Pioneer Days celebration as part of the state's Fallen Heroes Project. The South Dakota Dept. of Veterans Affairs, in conjunction with the South Dakota Dept.

Construction begins on Hwy. 212 from LaPlant to Hwy. 83

The South Dakota Dept. of Transportation (SDDOT) began paving work this week on an asphalt resurfacing project on U.S. Highway 212 from one mile east of LaPlant to U.S. Highway 83, mile markers 188 to 219.

Area COVID cases on the rise

After several months of few or no active COVID-19 cases in Dewey and Ziebach counties, Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe (CRST) Field Health reports cases in the two-county area have doubled in the past week up to 22.

Community scholarships to be awarded

The Timber Lake & Area Historical Society board has voted to award another round of Community Scholarships this summer. The scholarship program was established by the late Bob Urban, a 1934 graduate of Timber Lake High School. Three $3000 Community Scholarships will be awarded this year.

With use of new technology, Washington State officials identify remains of Standing Rock member

Officials in Washington state have identified the remains of a man whose body was discovered in a landfill 45 years ago as those of a Standing Rock Sioux Tribe member who was never reported missing.

June 15, 2022 Theresa White Lightning, a/k/a, Theresa Red Fox, 37, McLaughlin, convicted of assaulting, resisting, and impeding a federal officer, was sentenced on June 13, 2022, by U.S. District Court Judge Charles B.
