Oyate Isnala runners make four-year commitment

Tiospaye Topa students participated in the first Oyate Isnala (Lone Nation) Run on Saturday, June 4. The run, organized by Richard (Bubba) Smith Sr., was conducted as a way to bless each of the communities who came together in 1996 to create Tiospaye Topa School.

RIGHT: Dupree Parade Grand Marshals, Russell and Beverly Birkeland, led the Saturday morning parade. The Birkelands also led the parade of lawn mowers and side-by-sides in the Ziebach County Historical Society Fun Run.

Independence Day is Monday

The Fourth of July is next Monday, so government offices, including the US Post Offices, and most businesses will be closed. In Timber Lake, Country Market and Timber Lake Service will be open. In Isabel, Sparky’s Bar & Grille, and The Occidental General Store will be open.

No July 4 Celebration

The Timber Lake Volunteer Fire Department will have no Fourth of July celebration this year. However, the firemen will have a Golden Ticket Raffle fund raiser with tickets available from members and at Biegler Equipment.

Cemetery tour at Isabel July 9

The Isabel Cemetery Association is planning a tour of 10 grave sites at Hillview Cemetery on Saturday, July 9 from 6 to 9 p.m. Ina Boldt of the cemetery association is gathering historical information on the 10 people for a guide to be handed out.

Four seats open on Moreau-Grand board

Moreau-Grand Electric Cooperative members interested in running for a seat on the board of directors have until 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, to file a nominating petition. The election will be held during the cooperative’s annual meeting Oct. 7 at the Timber Lake School.

Ravnsborg out in first-ever impeachment

The South Dakota Senate voted on Tuesday, June 21 to uphold the articles of impeachment offered by the House removing Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg from office. The Senate also voted unanimously to keep Ravnsborg from ever again holding elective office in South Dakota.
