CRSTTA applies for funding for fiber for 865

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe Telephone Authority (CRSTTA) has submitted an application for the USDA Rural Development ReConnect3 grant to deploy fiber to the rural Timber Lake exchange (865) in Dewey and Corson counties.

Petitions filed

Since the last issue of the Topic, the following candidates have filed petitions to run for elective office in 2022: Jeff Ward of Timber Lake, a Democrat, has filed for Dewey County Sheriff. Rick Farlee, a Republican, has filed for Ziebach County Commissioner-at-Large.

No petitions yet for school board

As of Tuesday, no one had filed a petition for either of the vacancies on the Timber Lake School Board. The seats held by Jake Kraft and Rae O’Leary are open this year. The filing deadline is March 29.
Bids for a new 80 x 100 foot highway shop will be opened at the April 7 meeting of the Dewey County Commission. Plans and specs for the building, to be located north of the Timber Lake rodeo grounds, were prepared by North Central Steel of Mobridge. The bid notice appears on page 18 of this issue and bid documents are available at the Dewey County Auditor’s Office in the Courthouse.

Commissioners proceed with bids for new highway shop, approve pandemic premium pay for 2020 employees

The Dewey County Commission voted on March 3 to advertise for bids for a new county highway shop and to give premium pay to county employees who worked during the pandemic in 2020. Both subjects have been discussed at many previous meetings.

The kindergarten class visited Kasey Maher’s Grounded Coffee and Gifts last week (ABOVE) as part of Coffee Bean Week at Timber Lake School. Everyone at the school read Coffee Bean, a book by Damon West and Jon Gordon which talks about being resilient during hard times.
