Christmas Expectations

The other day I was having a conversation with a friend about the expectations surrounding Christmas. It can start to feel a bit overwhelming and stressful between the baking, giving of gifts and cards, decorating, parties, programs, and family expectations.

If He Had Not Come

At this time of year most are reminded of the birth of a baby in a manger long ago far away, in a town called Bethlehem. We look around and enjoy Christmas trees, colorful lights everywhere, time spent with family and friends.

What are you carrying?

We all carry something with us wherever we go and to whoever we meet. In this winter time we often share bugs from cold, flu, and now Covid-19. We spend lots of time trying to figure out who gave us what.

These words from the first chapter of Luke aren’t the first words we think of when we think of the Christmas story. In fact, you may not have even noticed them before now. The angel, talking to Mary, telling her of her upcoming pregnancy and also tells of Elizabeth’s pregnancy.
