Vigen Horse Co. claims top honors in Grand River Ranch Rodeo series

The Vigen Horse Company team won the third and final session of the Grand River Ranch Rodeo Series in Timber Lake on Saturday, Aug. 27, which also secured it the 2021 series championship. Other sessions were held this summer in McLaughlin and Mobridge.

Elshere third in Range Days saddle bronc event

Faith saddle bronc rider Cole Elshere posted a third place finish at the Range Days Rodeo in Rapid City Aug. 25-28 while two other local competitors were not far behind. Elshere put up 81.

Pete Maher of McLaughlin/ Timber Lake and Cruz Birkeland of Dupree snagged state championships in their respective events at the South Dakota 4-H Finals Rodeo Aug. 20-22 in Ft. Pierre. Maher clocked in at 20.

Seven children of the late Gordon and Ida Quinn were together recently when the family gathered at Timber Lake for the burial of Jessica Summers, daughter of Joyce Quinn Summers (See obituary on page 5).

Twin boys were born to Wesley and Pelagie Bridges of Timber Lake on July 15, 2021. Rhett Allen (LEFT) weighed 7 lbs., 6 oz. and was 20 inches long. Rowan James (RIGHT) weighed 6 lbs., 11 oz. and was 19.5 inches long. The fraternal twins join a brother, Ryker, and an angel sister Rylee.

Holy Cross Catholic School was built in the same location on F Street in 1952. It closed in 1979 and the building was used for other purposes of the parish. That structure was torn down in 2020.

Timber Lake Topic September 9, 1921 St. Joseph’s Parochial School The happy vacation days have past, and the new beginning of another school year is here. During the past two years St. Joseph’s School has attained progress, the fact of which we are proud of.
