The Annual Nebraska/Community Picnic will be making some changes this year. It will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2021, along with a Woodward family reunion. It will be held on Lawrence Woodward Creek, two miles east of Dupree, on the creek. (Turn north at Highway 65 & 212 Junction.

Labor Day weekend

Monday, September 6 is Labor Day, a state and federal holiday. Government offices, banks and post offices, and most businesses will be closed. Timber Lake School will have a four-day weekend, as there will be no school on Friday, Sept. 3 or Monday, Sept. 6.

September checkpoints

September’s list of sobriety checkpoints has been released by the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The monthly checkpoints are designed to discourage people from drinking and then driving.

Western Dakota Bank announces building plans

Local contractors have plans in hand to begin construction of a new building for Western Dakota Bank on Timber Lake’s Main Street. Bank President John Templer said last week that after three years of talking about it and six to eight months of working on details, the project is ready to go.

COVID cases spike to 74 - highest number since October 2020

With the Delta Variant causing a new wave of COVID-19 to take hold, the number of active cases in Dewey and Ziebach counties this week climbed to its highest mark since October 2020, just prior to a massive outbreak that led to a 10-day lockdown in Eagle Butte and Swiftbird.
