Ziebach County 4-H Achievement Day invites open class exhibitors

Everyone is invited to share some of their hobbies and interests at the annual Ziebach County 4-H Achievement Day, which will be held on August 5 at Pioneer Hall. Those students enrolled in 4-H will be showing projects and the community is also welcome to enter exhibits in the open class.

Petitions filed for co-op board

Three incumbent directors on the Moreau-Grand Electric Co-op board filed the only petitions for three-year terms. Clint Clark of Morristown (District 1), Larry Hieb of Timber Lake (District 3), and Bob Keckler of Eagle Butte (District 4) have no opposition.

Isabel Rodeo

The Isabel Rodeo, a West River tradition, will feature performances at 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 7-8 and honor Brent and Nancy Thiel. The weekend will kick-off on Friday, Aug. 6, with a calcutta, ranch rodeo and mutton bustin’ beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Dewey Co. Fair

The Dewey County Fair and 4-H Achievement Day is Thursday, July 29. Entry of exhibits begins at 9 a.m., and the auction of pies and cookies will begin at noon, following by an ice cream social. (More details are on page 7 of last week’s Topic.)

Timber Lake teachers will be back to school for two in-service work days, Wednesday and Thursday, August 11 and 12 in preparation for the first day of classes on Wednesday, August 18.

Area cowboys cash in at Calgary Stampede

Four area cowboys stepped onto the biggest rodeo stage in Canada recently at the annual Calgary Stampede held July 9-18 in Calgary, Alberta and came away with more than a few loonies for their efforts.
