MBIR begins sign-up for new COVID-19 vaccine trial

Missouri Breaks Industries Research at Eagle Butte has begun enrolling people in a clinical trial of a new COVID-19 prevention vaccine, NVX-CoV2373. As of last week, 50 people had enrolled. The announcement was made last week after the CRST Tribal Council gave approval for the research study.

Correction

A story in the Dec. 24, 2020 edition of the Topic (page 6) incorrectly reported the CRST Buffalo Authority Corporation had received a nearly $500,000 grant to provide locally-sourced beef and buffalo to school lunch programs in the area. The correct amount the corporation received was $49,000.

Dewey County Commission reorganizes for new year

At the annual reorganization meeting of the Dewey County Commission on January 5, Bob Berndt of Eagle Butte and John Meginness of Isabel were reelected chairman and vicechairman, respectively. The board appointed Dan Assman as sheriff; he had been serving as acting sheriff.

Area shooters among winners at memorial coyote calling contest

Several Dewey and Ziebach county participants were among those winning in the fourth annual Randy Roede Memorial Coyote Calling Contest held Dec. 18-19 near Pierre. The annual event raised almost $6,000 to be donated to youth shooting groups in and around Pierre.

Jared and Mason Hollenbeck and Kyrie Lemburg spent Christmas Eve in Mobridge with the Goldade family at noon and the Hollenbecks that evening. On Christmas Day, they went to Craig and Cathy Lemburg’s house. Clint and Vi Lemburg and Esther Goldade joined them there.
