Proposed Dewey County budget up 3.8% for 2021

When the Dewey County Commissioners meet on September 8 they will finalize a $3.7 million budget for 2021 - unless they make changes in the budget requests from departments. The total as proposed, is $137,295 more than the 2020 budget of $3,605,359.

CRST reports 21 active cases of coronavirus on reservation

The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe reported Tuesday there have been 111 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Dewey and Ziebach counties and 21 of those cases remain active. Dewey County has had 64 total cases, of which nine are still active. Ziebach County has had 42 cases and has 12 currently active.

The CRST Council has authorized $500 per month (from August to December) assistance to tribal member households on the reservation through the Tribe’s CARES Act funding.

Firefighters answer calls

Area fire departments were called into action on Sunday to fight several large grass fires in locations from the east side of the reservation to the west. One estimate was that over 7000 acres were scorched.

Isabel’s Kuper Heck has been learning and training since joining the Marines and is on track to graduate from Camp Pendleton in California this fall. Kuper left for boot camp January 27, was one of four squad leaders of his platoon of 80 other Marines, and completed the Crucible on April 9.

Kids say school is ‘different’this year

The word Timber Lake kids are using the most to describe the new school year is: “Different.” Adam Meier, a seventh grader, said after three days of school last week that it was “definitely different - not as fun as it used to be but still pretty fun.

The Corson County Fair in McIntosh was held Aug. 8 and 9. Even though the 4-H show was limited to family only, there was great support for the Jackpot Livestock Show on Saturday afternoon. The cookie auction started off the Corson County Livestock Premium Sale.
