Pairings set for 2021 Lakota Nation hoops invitational

The first-round pairings have been set for the 2021 Lakota National Invitational boys' and girls' basketball tournaments in Rapid City Thursday and Saturday, Dec. 17-18. For more information on the tournament and the complete schedule of the 44th annual event visit www.lakotanationinvitational.com.

The McLaughlin High School wrestling program has traditionally struggled with low participation numbers, but with growing interest and the addition of Timber Lake student-athletes under a new co-op agreement, the Mustangs enter the 2021-22 season with a nearly full roster.

The South Dakota State University (SDSU) Jackrabbits kicked the goahead field goal with just over five minutes remaining and outlasted North Dakota 24-21 in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday, Nov. 20.

Timber Lake Panther football coach Ryan Gimbel and senior running backs Hank Kraft and Jayce Lawrence collected some post-season honors this week. Gimbel, above, was named Region 8 Football Coach of the Year after leading the Panthers to the Class 9AA semifinals and a 9-2 overall record this fall.
